An
historic link-up, over half a mile underground, between Florence and Hem
Heath Collieries on 25th May 1979. A project, which cost £20
million to merge Hem Heath with Florence colliery began in 1974. It
involved linking the two collieries underground, and driving a 2,833
yards long drift from the surface to the underground for coal output and
man riding. A new coal preparation plant and rapid loading system was
built at Hem Heath. These two collieries merged eventually to form
Trentham colliery in 1990. |
