The delivery of coal in bags to domestic consumers started in the
early 1900’s. This four-wheeled dray with sacks of coal is ready
for delivery. Note brakes on rear wheels, hand operated from the
driver’s seat and candle lit lamps. The background shows no.21 pit
and a 12 ton wagon of the Silverdale company. The six sided chimney
on a square base is typical of the period.
